The Secret to Learning English
“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.”
Benjamin Franklin
Starting with the End in Mind: ‘N(A)’ & ‘O’ Levels English
Our Secondary English Tuition is available for Secondary Levels 1 to 5.
Our tuition programmes rigorously follow the MOE syllabi corresponding to N(A)-Level or O-Level to ensure that our students are well prepared for their level assessments.
Our ultimate aim is to prepare the student for their ‘N(A)’ or ‘O’ Levels. Therefore, all components in ‘N(A)’ and ‘O’ Levels English will be covered.
Toto… We’re not in Kansas anymore
In addition to the cultural shock, students normally experience an academic shock as they transit from Primary to Secondary School. They are expected to exercise initiative and figure out many things for themselves. Perhaps worse of all, they are expected to apply everything they have learned in Primary School!
From our experience, many students have trouble adjusting to English in Secondary School after leaving Primary School. Comprehension questions need a stronger ability of inference from the student while Writing involves elements of argumentation and critical thought. Secondary School students are also expected to possess a healthy understanding of society and the world!

Testimonials
- “The centre has many experienced teachers who are really good at teaching, they are really caring as well, super helpful and very enthusiastic. They will always ask whether you need any help, and really patient :)”
Teck Wai, Sec 4 Student - “The teacher here is patient and friendly! My experiences here are fun and lessons have been engaging :)) The teacher never fails to provide feedback after every work that I have completed and I enjoyed every session. Would recommend signing up!”
Calvan, Sec 4 Student - “I joined iMatter since the beginning of Sec 1 and had stayed here for the entirety of my secondary education. I enjoyed my lessons here because I could laugh and learn at the same time. Starting with a grade of 4 in Sec 1, I managed to clinch a 1 in Sec 4. I would like to thank my teacher here, Mr Kwok, for his patience and guidance through those 4 years. He had helped me immensely in gaining fresh insights into the ‘mundane’ tasks of comprehension and writing.”
Shun Ci, awaiting entry into Polytechnic - “I was concerned about my English in Sec 4 with O Levels looming within a year’s time. I decided to enrol myself in iMatter based on the recommendation of my brother who had a positive experience taking tuition here.
In the run-up to my O Levels, Mr Kwok had us practising and reinforcing the various components of our English paper. Importantly, he showed us helpful methods to tackle those components. Over time, I gained confidence in my English skills, allowing me to obtain a good grade in my O Levels.”
Aniq, awaiting entry into Polytechnic - “iMatter Learning Centre is more than just a place to learn about syllabus. It is a safe space where students can venture beyond textbooks and learn more about how the things we learn are integrated into society.
I took a total of 4 subjects, Chemistry, Biology, English and Math here. My tutors are all friendly and caring to each and every student.
Mr Kwok who teaches English and Chemistry is someone who is patient and engaging, he often goes the extra mile to ensure that a certain concept is understood through reinforcement and practice. He brings real world examples into play to allow us to bridge together what we learn to how it is applied in the real world.”
Joseph, awaiting O Levels results - “I especially like the helpfulness of my tutor in helping me to improve my English.”
Anaqi, Sec 1 Student - “There is Immediate feedback from the tutor so that I know where I should improve on.”
Weisi, Sec 3 Student - “Fun, interactive and enjoyable lessons. Friendly tutor.”
Jun Hui, Sec 3 Student - “Interesting, provide sufficient and useful materials. Teacher is friendly and very informative and helpful.”
Gareth, Sec 3 Student
